Which PR Request Hashtags Still Work in 2026 (We Checked All Seven)

Most guides still tell you to monitor seven hashtags. Two of them are dead, and two more are close to it. We monitor all seven continuously, so here is what 270 genuine requests captured between 15 and 30 July 2026 actually say.

The results

Hashtag Share of requests Verdict
#journorequest 94% Monitor this one. It is the market.
#prrequest 26% Worth monitoring — usually paired with the above
#editorialrequest 7% Niche, skews fashion and lifestyle
#sourcerequest <1% Nearly extinct
#mediarequest <1% Nearly extinct
#bloggerrequest 0% Dead
#callforexperts 0% Dead

Shares exceed 100% because most posts carry more than one tag.

We double-checked the dead ones

Zero results could just mean our filters were too strict, so we ran dedicated searches for #bloggerrequest, #callforexperts, #mediarequest and #sourcerequest across a full week, deliberately excluding the two dominant tags.

The result: 0, 0, 0 and 1.

They are not being crowded out. There is genuinely nothing there.

Why the old advice is wrong

The most widely-cited study of journorequest hashtags analysed tweets from November and December 2024. It reported #bloggerrequest at 2.7 requests a day and #mediarequest at 1.4. Those numbers were probably right at the time. Eighteen months later they are not.

Blogging-specific outreach has largely collapsed into general journalist requests, and X’s overall volume has thinned. If you built a monitoring setup from a 2024 guide, you are watching empty tags.

Where the requests went instead

What to monitor, in order

  1. #journorequest on X — nine out of ten requests
  2. #journorequest on Bluesky — the growth area
  3. #prrequest — mostly overlapping, but catches the rest
  4. The free newsletters — different pool, different journalists
  5. #editorialrequest — only if you work in fashion, beauty or lifestyle

Everything else is a waste of attention.

Method

270 genuine requests captured 15–30 July 2026 across X, Bluesky and Mastodon, filtered to exclude retweets, replies, promotional posts and people advertising themselves as sources. A fortnight is a short window and volumes are seasonal — we will refresh as the dataset grows. See the complete guide to journorequests for the full picture.
